"I use Perl on both Unix machines and NT machines. Perl is very portable between the platforms, Perl also runs on the Mac, Amiga and just about any other OS out there. In my dealings with Perl, I have found it to be a system administrators dream and a web developers dream! Because it is very cross-platform compatible, I don't need to worry too much if a program will work between systems. Perl has always been there for me when I needed to automate something or make something easier. In the past, Perl has been brushed-off as just a scripting language, or because Perl is not a commercial application with commercial support. These arguments are very poor excuses that managers had used in the past to cover their butts in case something went wrong. The funny thing is, the I.T. professionals have been using it and relying on it for years. Also, without Perl, most of the dynamically generated web pages/sites on the Internet today would not function as well as they do. Perl is a very robust and powerful language; don't let anyone tell you differently. It is a proven language that is going to stick around."
