Mary J. Cronin

Mary J. Cronin, Ph.D. is a professor of Management at Boston College and has done extensive research in the development and implementation of Internet business strategies. During 1997-98 Dr. Cronin is working with Mainspring Communications in Cambridge, Massachusetts to develop a Web-based advisory service based on strategic case studies and benchmarking of Internet applications at the world's leading companies. At the University, she teaches courses in Internet Business Strategy, Electronic Commerce, and International Networking.

Dr. Cronin's work as a researcher, consultant, and author illustrates how the Internet is transforming business processes within industries and altering the basis of international competitiveness. She writes a regular column for Fortune called "Nets at Work" that analyzes the impact of specific Internet applications and challenges managers to rethink the boundaries of their industry and market focus.

Among her books are,

  • Doing Business on the Internet: How the Electronic Highway is Transforming American Companies (Van Nostrand Reinhold, 1994, 2nd ed, 1996);
  • Global Advantage on the Internet (VNR, 1996), and
  • The Internet Strategy Handbook: Lessons from the New Frontier of Business (Harvard Business School Press, 1996).
  • Her latest book, Banking and Finance on the Internet, features case studies of internet initiatives at Liberty Financial Companies, Charles Schwab, First Data Corporation, Citibank, and other leading companies.
